My story
I first went to work as a newspaper carrier at the age of 12. I have worked in a variety of industries, all in the sales world, and I have learned through experience that each and every customer deserves the very best in all that I do.
Why I built Carolinas Flooring around one relationship
My name is David A. Gwilt. I began working in flooring in 2007. After 12 years with another flooring business, I established David A Gwilt LLC, doing business as Carolinas Flooring, in 2019.
I have worked in sales and management in several industries. Across those experiences, I saw how quickly service becomes frustrating when the customer has to repeat the same story to several people.
I built Carolinas Flooring around a simpler idea: every customer deserves my direct attention and my best advice. I want to understand why you are changing the flooring, what the room asks of it, and what tradeoffs matter to you before recommending a path.
My story, in my own words
A longer conversation about how I came to flooring and how I work.

How I stay involved
Installation is done by subcontractor crews I have vetted and worked with for years. I stop by, unannounced, while they work.
- I respond to the initial flooring conversation.
- I help determine what information and site review the project requires.
- I guide product comparison and prepare the written quote.
- I coordinate ordering and scheduling after the agreement and deposit.
- I stay involved during the installation process.
- I remain the contact for questions and follow-up.
Where I come from
I worked in sales and management in several industries, including newspaper circulation and residential real estate, in New York, Arizona, Colorado and California, and North Carolina.
I have been in flooring since 2007.
I hold a BA in Psychology from Syracuse University and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from UNCC.
What I believe
I have learned that the success of my business ultimately depends on my personal involvement, especially when it comes to hiring craftsmen who care about each job as if it was for their own home.
- Honesty. If the right answer depends on the product, site, or budget, I will say so. A flooring decision is too important for an answer that sounds simple but leaves out a condition.
- Fair pricing. I provide a written quote based on the selected material and defined scope. Fair does not mean making an unsupported claim to be the lowest. It means explaining what the price covers and what could change it.
- Personal service. You have one owner contact who knows the project from the first conversation through the final review.
My goal for every project
My goal is to give you useful advice, set realistic expectations, coordinate the agreed work, and remain available when the installation is complete. Perfection is the goal, but the existing site and subfloor create real conditions that have to be evaluated honestly.
